It is before the New Year and, as promised, I will divulge into what this project is all about. The focus of it. The mission statement. Whatever fancy name you want to call it. I thought using a reference to an okay comic-book movie would suffice.
Anamnesis, which is aptly named by that clever fellow Plato, is a project about people making music for free. Because, myself and others I have worked with in the past, believe that music can't be "owned." Have you ever tried to grab onto the sounds emitting from your stereo? Have you been successful? I know I haven't. In this capitalist society, record producers have found clever and tricky ways to make us believe music can be owned, like a tangible object. Through tapes, CDs, now MP3 and AAC, "musicians" think they can limit our "piracy." Some of the best moments of my life was when I shared an LP with another friend and we listened together.
I guess now I am a criminal. Or something.
The point is, even a musician doesn't own their own work. They created it. Now it is in the soundscape for everyone to enjoy, perhaps even carry with them, but never own. So the music created here at Anamnesis is for everyone, owned by no one, hence the title "Free-Music Project"
And now the most most embarrassing part: we might as well call this the "Starving-Artist Project" as well. I don't have the funds to sustain this project for long, even though my love for it is expansive. So. I am gonna do it as long as possible. I'll publish every song I or others make here. I'll also post videos on youtube of my extremely shabby studio and work space, whence I am writing my music. And I'll also hope to have the same amount of money I started this project with - $0. If I get anything from anyone, it will make my day, probably give me motivation to continue the project, and who knows - I might even write a song for those lucky donators.
Until I get a few songs done, peace.
